The Building of Midtown
Become a Part of History
Constructed of brick and timber, Hotel Roxy Lofts was originally known as the H.B. Davis building. It began life in 1921 as a grocery store and hardware store, with doctor and dentist offices on the second floor. In 1939, it was converted into the Hotel Roxy and served the many railroads and construction workers who came to Atlanta to help shape the future of our city. During WWII, the area experienced an economic boom with an influx of war workers, many of whom would find lodging at Hotel Roxy.
As the Davis Building and Hotel Roxy would go through its remodels and upgrades, so did the large city block it occupies. Located on Marietta Street, this area of Northwest Atlanta was primarily a shopping district before spending the first half of the 20th century as a predominantly commercial neighborhood. Post-WWII progress would mark a decline in the area as a combination of highway construction and urban renewal would see the area and Hotel Roxy adapt with the times. Since 1995, the Hotel Roxy Lofts apartments continues to be a popular landmark, and is a testament to the timeless legacy of one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods.
